  •  May 2008 while in Beaufort, NC Skip and Danny win the

    National Boat Building Challenge!

    They won in record time and hold the

    World's Fastest Time of

    2 hours, 26 mins., 35 secs.

    Way to go!

    Skip will not be able to attend the final challenge scheduled for October 18th in Georgetown, SC.  We will be racing in the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race at that time.

    July 26, 2008 update.  Maine has had their National Boat Building Challenge.  Skip and Danny's record time still stands.  I wonder what will happen in South Carolina when all the teams, minus Skip, will get together for the final competition.  Skip says if his record is broken he will go back to Beaufort next year and do it again.

    October 2008 update.  The final, which took place in Georgetown, SC produced a new world record holder.  I do not have the particulars, but have learned that the record was broken by a minute or two.  Skip believes he will return to Beaufort, NC in May 2009 to win back the title.

    34th Annual Wooden Boat Festival

    Beaufort, NC - May 3, 2008.

    MISTRESS had a great showing and walked away with a plaque and a medal.  Skip climbed the masts at first light to dress ship with the following message;

    "Happy 78 Birthday Schooner MISTRESS - Thank you Beaufort North Carolina Maritime Museum".

    The kids had great fun using the key to decipher the message and won bubbles, stars, and a chance to get that old 1905 fog horn blowing.  What a great time.
